I love the new posters for On The Road. Each character is highlighted with a tagline that sort of pops them to life in print. I’m glad the studio seems to have put so much thought and care into this flick. I wouldn’t be the only pissed off former rebellious teen that lived for this book at one point in my life if they Hollywood-ed up this movie. It’s more than an American classic. It’s American coming of age. I don’t know that this story resonates as much with the super-connected and tech-driven youth today..but before the internet boom….it was comforting to see in print that others have felt disconnected and the need for more life in their life.
To keep the movie real..the entire cast underwent a three-week ‘beatnik boot camp’ for the film, led by Kerouac biographer Gerald Nicosia, in which they read literature pertaining to the Beat Generation. Fun.

In the free-spirited trailer, Kristen goes topless while sitting in a car next to a similarly clothes-free Garrett and English actor Sam Riley as a thinly-veiled version of Kerouac. The story is based on the years Kerouac spent traveling the United States in the 1940s with his friend Neal Cassady and several other figures who would go on to fame in their own right, including William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg.
